Clone REA765 recognizes the human CD137 antigen, a 30 kDa glycoprotein of the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) receptor superfamily, a group of cytokines that can cause cell death (apoptosis). CD137 is mainly expressed on activated CD4+ and CD8+ T cells, activated B cells, and natural killer cells, but can also be found on resting monocytes and dendritic cells. CD137 (4-1BB, Tnsfr9) is a member of the TNF-receptor (TNFR) superfamily without known intrinsic enzymatic activity in its cytoplasmic domain. Hence, akin to other members of the TNFR family, it relies on the TNFR-Associated-Factor (TRAF) family of adaptor proteins to build the CD137 signalosome for transducing signals into the cell.
